Pianist and composer Jason Moran’s impressionistic style, inspired by the likes of Basquiat and Ravel, has brought him much acclaim but with his new album he demonstrates his world music credentials.
Eight of the tracks are new works commissioned by major U.S. arts institutions such as the Walker Art Center, Jazz @ Lincoln Center and Joanne Jonas and the Dia Art Foundation, highlighting a strong following among the arts community for his modernistic and progressive vision.
"The overall concept was to document compositions that individuals/institutions commissioned” says Moran. “Also this is one of the few times I have an album where ALL of the music is representational. Nothing abstract."
