Chicago-based vocalist Jackie Allen has a warm and alluring style that is equally adept at standards and contemporary songs. Raised in the folk/ rock traditions of the mid-West she showed promise as a singer from an early age and found her way into jazz at college, where bassist Richard Davis was among her teachers.
In her subsequent career she has successfully imbued her musical roots with a keen jazz sensibility that has enabled her to bridge the gap between the jazz and pop music worlds.
On Tangled, her Blue Note debut album, Allen has put together a jazz-infused, pop-charged collection of 12 songs from composers as diverse as Van Morrison, Rodgers and Hart, Johnny Mandel and Randy Newman as well as members of the band, each of which bears her own distinctive and heartfelt interpretation.
