The Bad Plus
Could the cutting edge US trio The Bad Plus (top right photo) be about to surface on Universal? The band lost their record deal when the Columbia jazz division folded and have recently recorded a new album with producer Tony Platt (bottom right photo) (Soweto Kinch, Bob Marley, AC/DC). Recording took place at Pachyderm Studio in Minnesota, where Nirvana, Soul Asylum and The Jayhawks made some of their most important albums.

The trio, consisting of Reid Anderson (bass), Ethan Iverson (piano) and David King (drums) have all acknowledged that this is their most representative sounding recording to date and can’t wait for release sometime this spring.

Clare Teal
The much loved Yorkshire singer and BBC Radio Two presenter Clare Teal is releasing a new album this spring. It will be her first release since Autumn 2004’s “Don’t Talk” which entered the UK album chart at #20 making the highest-ever entry for a UK jazz recording artist.
The new album will mark a change of direction for the artist away from jazz, and will feature pop and country oriented material and covers including the Swing Out Sister hit “Breakout” and Dusty Springfield’s “How Can I Be Sure”. |
This should allow the wonderful Miss Teal to attract a new mainstream audience and hopefully jazz lovers won’t feel too left out.

The Perrin Siblings
Following their recent and triumphant London Jazz Festival appearance, The Perrin Siblings will perform a special concert of new works and innovative visuals at the Purcell Room on 15 March 2007 at 7.45pm. Lola Perrin will perform the world premiere of Test Site (after Hoeller) Piano Suite V and give the second UK performance of The Wind Is Older Than The World; a substantial 20 minute piano & film collaboration with Mahesh Mathai. Lola & Roland will perform the world premiere of her new piece for the two-piano repertoire, G Mass, which will be accompanied by a new projection from The Gray Circle.
After the interval Roland Perrin’s Blue Planet Orchestra will be performing vibrant world grooves from their new CD. Running through are two threads; the world seen through the unblinking eyes of childhood, and the “WHAT IF…” series. The latter is an ongoing fascination in Roland’s mind for transplanting composers to other times and places such as Scott Joplin to Cuba and Beethoven to Spain.
