Like June Christy, Helen O’Connell and Julie London, Chris Connor started with big bands and broke through to a solo career at the end of the big band era in the late forties. Her voice possesses a deep, smoky quality and she delivers her songs with subtlety and restrained drama.
On this live 1963 album, she and her quartet swing hard, and Connor gives one of her best recorded performances.
