Hailed by Billboard as 'the first psychedelic jazz group', the Charles Lloyd Quartet were one of the most popular jazz outfits of the late 1960s. Featuring the brilliant 'Sombrero Sam', later covered by Kool & The Gang.
This live set from the 1969 Monterey Jazz Festival captures the whole group at their rip-roaring best, just before Miles Davis, ever hip to happening young voices, recruited Jarrett and DeJohnette.
